The search is on to crown the 2024 Sefton Young Sportsperson of the Year – and we’d like you to let us know who deserves to be on this year’s shortlist. 

The category, sponsored by DT Hughes, will be celebrated at this year’s Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards. 

Organisers are inviting people to nominate anyone who you think has achieved highly this year in any sport played locally – whether it’s football, Taekwondo, judo, netball, kickboxing, rugby, cricket, swimming, squash, hockey, gymnastics, or anything else.

The winners and finalists will be honoured at the Grand on Lord Street in Southport on Friday, 26th April 2024. 

Submissions are being sought from Southport, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Maghull, Aintree, and across the borough.

Within our group, are a number of divisions including: Electricity, Telecoms, Highways Surfacing, Civil Engineering, Domestic Building Contractors and Commercial.

The head office is located in Aintree in Sefton with satellite offices across Wirral and North Wales. The company employs over 70 members of staff, from general administration to project management.

Last year’s Sefton Young Sportsperson of the Year was Isabella Dixon, from Netherton, an England International in Kickboxing and is described in her nomination as “one of the most outstanding young sportspeople I have ever met”.

The future Olympic star, an England kickboxing international and British Taekwondo champion, celebrated her 10th birthday at the Pride Of Sefton Awards by winning the Sefton Young Sportsperson Of The Year Award, sponsored by DT Hughes Contractors

The Scarisbrick Hall schoolgirl who trains out of Maghull was described as “an Olympic star in the making”. 

Isabella’s Dad, Simon Dixon, said: “Isabella – Bella to everyone – has been dreaming about the Olympics ever since she was a little girl. 

“She was ecstatic and very proud to have been recognised.”

Also a Finalist was Luis Wright, who entered the World Kickboxing Association World Championships in Wales and won three Gold Medals for Team GB. He also won two Gold Medals in Muay Thai at different weights and one Gold Medal in Kickboxing  and a Silver Medal in Glory Rules.  

Another Finalist was Emily Blackhurst, a 16 year old aerobic gymnast who had competed for Great Britain in the World Championships in Portugal. 

Emily has been a gymnast since the age of five years old and is a fantastic role model for everyone at her club, the LK Aerobic Gymnastics Club in Southport, always finding the time to help and coach the next generations.

She has been part of the Great Britain Aerobic Gymnastic team for many years and has attended a number of international competitions.

The Pride Of Sefton Awards sponsored by The Grand Southport and organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport, is an unmissable fixture in the Liverpool City Region events calendar, in association with In Demand Radio

The ceremony will be presented by In Demand Radio presenter Claire Simmo and former Sky Sports News presenter Fraser Dainton. 

All those on the shortlist will be invited to a special celebratory meal in the beautiful surroundings of The Princess Grace Suite at The Grand in Southport while the awards are presented, with a stunning night of entertainment planned. 

Nominations are still being invited across all 13 categories ahead of the closing date on 22nd March 2024.
