Comedy lovers are getting ready for a rumble from the jungle at this year’s Southport Comedy Festival.

TV comedian Seann Walsh has enjoyed “a fantastic response” since he was announced to perform at the event at Victoria Park later this year.

Seann came fifth in ITV series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last year, and has also starred on BBC1 show Strictly Come Dancing.

He is no stranger to Southport, having been the first act to appear as The Atkinson opened its doors following its £20 million transformation in 2013.

Southport Comedy Festival Director Brendan Riley said:

“We have had a fantastic response to Seann Walsh coming to the festival already! We have already sold over 50 tickets for his gig, it’s already on the way to being our first sell-out show.

“His shows across the UK are selling out this year, he is doing really well at the moment.

“This is the first time that Seann Walsh has joined us at our Southport Comedy Festival, and we are delighted to have him with us this year.

“We are looking to make some changes this year and are planning on introducing some more comedy festival first-timers very soon.

“Simon Brodkin is another great new name for us this year, we have really freshened it up.

“We also have our festival favourites coming back this year including the brilliant Jason Byrne and Jimeoin, who are always really popular.

“Last year we had a great response from audiences when we presented top TV names such as Al Murray and Milton Jones and we are excited about this year’s line-up too. More names will be announced in the coming weeks.

“It is great to be working with Elite Marquees again to provide a huge heated and seated marquee for Southport Comedy Festival, as well as Alan Adams and his team at Victoria Park.”

Seann Walsh, will be bringing his latest stand-up show, Back From The Bed to the Southport Comedy Festival on Tuesday 3rd October 2023.

This show follows from his critically acclaimed show Seann Walsh: Is Dead. Happy Now? which was nominated for a DAVE Comedy Award for Best Comedy Show at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Seann’s countless TV credits include The Lovebox In Your Living Room (BBC2) alongside Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse, Netflix’s Flinch, Live At The Apollo (BBC2), Tonight at The London Palladium (ITV), Celebrity Juice (ITV2), Play To The Whistle (ITV), Seann also has starred in series 1-3 of The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV2), Backstage with Katherine Ryan on Amazon Prime, a team captain for Virtually Famous (C4), 8 Out of 10 Cats (C4), Alan Carr’s Chatty Man (C4), Hey Tracey! (ITV2), Comedians Solve World Problems (Comedy Central) and he has made regular appearances on The Jonathan Ross Show. Seann also appeared in Dave Channel’s Campaign Against Living Miserably and is an ambassador for the CALM charity.

In 2022, Seann’s critically acclaimed film short ‘Clown’ won best film at the prestigious Los Angeles Comedy Film & Screenplay Festival 2022.

Seann also hosts the hit podcast What’s Upset You Now? alongside Paul McCaffrey. Recent guests have included: Katherine Ryan, Tom Davis, Jon Richardson, Alan Carr and Stewart Lee. Earlier this month Seann launched a new podcast alongside fellow comedian Jack Dee titled Oh My Dog! where the duo talk about their furry friends joined by weekly special guests. Seann is the fourth name to be announced for this year’s 17 day event which will be held once again in a luxury heated and seated marquee courtesy of Elite marquees at Victoria Park.

Irish funnymen and festival favourites Jason Byrne and Jimeoin and world-famous prankster and Lee Nelson creator Simon Brodkin are already on sale with more exciting names to be announced in the next few weeks.

About the show

Seann Walsh: Back from the Bed

Hello, Seann here. Did you know that comedians have to write their own blurb? I find that absolutely insane. What am I meant to say? “I’m fantastic, come and look at me talk”? I don’t know. It’s me. I do stand-up.

I guess I can start with the fact I renamed the tour. Sticking with ‘Same Again?’ felt a bit triggering after the year we’ve had. So it is now called Back from the Bed. Some of the material will be the same as I had always planned and some of it will be new because it will be difficult to avoid mentioning the last year in which millions of decent people tragically lost their lives to TikTok.

The previous leg of this tour got a lot of standing ovations, which was pleasing. Either that or they were leaving early. Come along if you like me. I’d be confident enough to say come along if you’re on the fence. Cheers. Here are some things I’ve been on…

‘Unquestionably the best observational comic of his generation’ – The Guardian

‘His standup is richer than ever’ – 4 stars / The Guardian
