Gary Delaney and Seann Walsh are among the stars of TV coming to Bootle for the Salt and Tar Comedy Weekender this Spring Bank Holiday Weekend (23rd to 26th May 2024).
Big Comedy UK, the people behind Southport Comedy Festival, are delighted to be working with Sefton Council for another year on this exciting event.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural Comedy Weekender where hundreds of visitors came to enjoy watching some of the UK’s top comedy performers, the four-day event returns and promises to be bigger and better.

Salt and Tar is a new multi-use, outdoor events venue, located in Bootle directly behind the Strand Shopping Centre.
Salt and Tar is Sefton’s newest hub for large-scale and community events.

Its events programme for 2024 offers a wide range of entertainment from comedy to music to street food events with music legends Tom Jones and Status Quo set to play the venue this August.
The Comedy Weekender all takes place under canvas in a heated and seated luxury marquee from Elite Marquees and will host some of the biggest names in comedy featuring stars from Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week and Have I Got News For You.
They include Seann Walsh, Gary Delaney, Hal Cruttenden, Brennan Reece and rising stars Peter Rethinasamy and Liverpool’s own Katie Tracey.
There will also be family fun days with Comedy Bingo and Children’s Comedy Shows from Britain’s Got Talent star Steve Royle and Bootle’s own John Harding – Resident Magician of The Northern Belle.

Bingo Nights UK will be bringing its hugely popular Disco Bingo event back to the Weekender where you can win fantastic prizes and dance the night away.
New to this year’s programme, there will be a very special event. Bootle Stands Up Comedy Workshop showcase will see ten individuals taking part in a six-week comedy course culminating in a performance on the main stage on Thursday 23rd May 2024, the opening night of the Salt and Tar Comedy Weekender. The event is sponsored by Dowhigh Ltd and all proceeds will go to a local charity Ykids.
