Marshside Primary School in Southport is back open this Thursday after a race against time to repair damage caused by Storm Arwen over the weekend.
The school, on Elswick Drive in Marshside, has been closed throughout Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
The building’s roof suffered substantial damage during gale force winds over Friday and Saturday.
Fierce winds which lashed Southport caused a section of the school’s roof to collapse, with water pouring in.
This Friday’s Christmas Craft Fair has been cancelled due to the damage.
But students, staff and parents will be delighted at the return to class after some fast work by a team of people.
A Marshside Primary School spokesperson said: “Marshside Primary will be open again Thursday. We look forward to welcoming our children and families back. Please bring a packed lunch!
Marshside Primary School Governor Andy Brown Tweeted: “Big credit to the school team, Sefton Council, Davies Facility Management and Mac Roofing Ltd for helping to make this possible.”
Storm Arwen caused considerable damage across Southport on Friday and Saturday, with buildings damaged, toppled trees blocking roads and events cancelled.
The Met Office issued a Yellow Weather Warning For Wind in the Southport area, with a Yellow Weather Warning For Snow across inland areas of England.
