The Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street in Southport town centre has been closed for refurbishment.
The doors on the building have been closed with rolls of white paper covering up the ground floor windows while work takes place inside.
News of the revamp will be warmly welcomed, with the hotel currently the worst rated in Southport on TripAdvisor.
It has just two stars out of a possible five, rated as ‘Poor’, and lower in the table of Traveller rankings than Pontins.
The Scarisbrick Hotel is one of four sites in Southport owned by Britannia, which also owns The prince Of Wales Hotel on Lord Street, The Royal Clifton Hotel on the Promenade and Pontins holiday park in Ainsdale.
A note has been posted on the front door, saying: “The Scarisbrick Hotel is currently closed for refurbishment.
“If you have a reservation with us, you will have been moved to The Prince Of Wales Hotel, Lord Street, PR8 1JS, Tel 01704536688.
“We apologise for the inconvenience.”
It is not known when the hotel will reopen.
