The former The Revitalise Sandpipers Respite Holidays Centre in Southport has been sold.

The centre is very close to the site of the new £73 Marine Lake Events Centre in Southport.

This week, Sefton Council announced that Graham Group has been chosen to build the exciting new facility, in addition to an adjacent water and light show, with an expected opening in 2027.

It’s further evidence of the current investment boom in Southport, with major projects such as MLEC, Cove Resort Southport, The Garrick and others.

Staff and residents were devastated when the Sandpipers Centre was closed suddenly in October last year, after more than 50 years of providing respite holidays in a beautiful setting for people with disabilities and their carers in a purpose built centre on the edge of the Marine Lake in Southport.

The two acre site was promptly put up for sale with Christie & Co with ‘offers invited’.

The centre has subsequently been sold, although it is not known at this stage who has purchased this prime Southport site or what their ambitions are for it.

As part of the marketing for the site, Christie & Co said it had ‘redevelopment potential for alternative uses’ including residential.

Christie & Co describes the site as a ‘34 Bed Respite Care with Holiday Use (C2); Waterside Location; All ensuite wet rooms; Development Potential’.

In their sales brief they highlighted its “beautiful waterside location with panoramic views overlooking Marine Lake and within close proximity of the beach and promenade”.

Planning consent was granted in 2022 by Sefton Council to increase the capacity of Sandpipers to 50 bedrooms.

No work ever took place ahead of the closure and subsequent sale.
