Stand Up For Southport blog by Andrew Brown
Looking back at one of the heartwarming moments in Southport in 2024 was the royal visit by King Charles III.
The King cut short his holiday at Balmoral to head to Southport to meet families devastated by July’s tragedy, at a private meeting in the Town Hall. What took place remains between them.
He then spent lots of time walking around outside, chatting with people who have played their part in supporting the local community, as well as thousands of well wishers.
He then went to Southport Fire Station and Ambulance Station where he went to thank those in the emergency services for all they have done this year, and all they have faced, as well as other local heroes.
Whether you’re a Monarchist or not doesn’t matter; I think everyone was impressed by the humanity, the empathy and the genuine interest shown by the King during his visit.
After the tragedy followed by the rioting, his visit played a vital role in putting Southport on the front pages and on TV channels worldwide for positive reasons.
It was a boost that Southport really needed at such a dark time and King Charles’ kindness that day – and since – was hugely appreciated and will never be forgotten.
