A road closure will be in place this Saturday (28th March 2026) to safely accommodate the huge number of fans coming to cheer on Southport Football Club in their historic FA Trophy Semi Final game against Southend United.
Around 5,600 supporters are heading to pack out Haig Avenue for a sold-out fixture.
The Sandgrounders are just one game from Wembley, with what would be their first appearance in the FA Trophy Final since they played Cheltenham Town in 1998.
A road closure notice says: “Please be aware that Haig Avenue, Southport, will be temporarily closed for reasons of Public Health and Safety before, during and after the FA Trophy Semi-final at Southport FC.
“The closure will take place on Saturday 28th March 2026 between 12.00 hours and 18.00 hours.
“Access will be maintained for Emergency Services, and wherever possible for residents.
“The diversion route will be via Forest Road, Ash Street, Scarisbrick New Road, Meols Cop Road, Norwood Road, Haig Avenue and vice versa.”

A sell-out crowd will see Southport take on National League side Southend in only the club’s second FA Trophy Semi-Final.
It will be four weeks since the dramatic penalty shoot out win against Yeovil Town saw the club reach this stage.

Southport FC did meet Southend in the FA Trophy last season at Roots Hall going down 1-0 in the fourth round and have met previously when both sides were in the Football League, the most memorable occasion being back in 1966-67 when Southport clinched promotion to Football League Division Three (League 1) by virtue of a 1-0 win against Southend.
