This year Queenscourt Hospice in Southport has a strong team of 10 runners taking part in the iconic London Marathon – including two people who work at the hospice.
The team has been training hard for months with lots of long training runs to help build up the distance ready for race day.
The runners have not only been sharing tips on training routes, they’ve been sharing tips on everything from the best running socks to how best to celebrate after a long run.
Introducing Team Queenscourt London Marathon Runners 2023:
Helen Goodwin, Helen Wagstaff, James Jones, James Stafford, Laura Rose, Liz Stringman, Matthew Warren, Simon Rafferty, Thomas Cunliffe, and Tom Lissett.
James Jones said: ‘Queenscourt helped my Father during a difficult time for our family and we will always be grateful for their support.
“Securing a place in the London marathon and being able to fundraise for the hospice means the world to me and I can’t wait for the big day and being able to raise as much money as possible and support their wonderful work in our community.’
Tom Lissett said: ‘It is a privilege for me to run the London Marathon for Queenscourt Hospice, who provide fantastic care and support for the people most in need within our community.
“I am therefore delighted to raise money for a great charity and run for Queenscourt on April 23rd.’”

Queenscourt is even more delighted that two of this year’s runners actually work at the hospice. Both Helen Wagstaff (Specialist and Supportive Palliative Care Coordinator) and Laura Rose (Palliative Care Nurse Specialist) jumped at the chance to take part in the 26.2 mile marathon that will take them past the fantastic sights of London.
Queenscourt staff really do go above and beyond in their roles for our local hospice.
Andrea Parkes, Community & Challenge Events Fundraiser said: “Places for the London Marathon are like gold dust and this year Queenscourt was extremely lucky to have 10 places to fill.
“I would like to thank all our runners for taking on this challenge for Queenscourt and for being absolutely amazing in their training. I hope they enjoy their London Marathon experience and remember that every step they take is helping to raise vital funds for the hospice.”
Liz Hartley, Fundraising Manager said: “As well as our 10 runners we also have another equally amazing runner that managed to secure their own place at the marathon and have chosen to run for Queenscourt Hospice in April.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Heather Culshaw for choosing to also run for Queenscourt.
“Good luck to all our runners and I hope all your training pays off.”
