The Queenscourt Hospice Star Trekk walk

As our days get longer and brighter, now is the perfect time to get your running, walking or cycling shoes on to fundraise for Queenscourt Hospice in Southport as part of 5K May.

5K May is an initiative created by the charity ‘Run for Heroes’ which is encouraging the nation to get active as lockdown restrictions continue to ease, whilst at the same time raising much-needed funds for charity.

Queenscourt has partnered with Run for Heroes and is appealing for its supporters to get involved in this 5K challenge.

The idea behind 5K May is for the participant to exercise for 5km, donate £5 and nominate 5 friends to also get involved in the initiative.

Everyone is invited to take part, by yourself or as part of a team, and to invite friends and family members to get involved too.

As the name suggests, it’s all about getting fit and hitting that 5km target but it’s not just about running – you could walk, roll, skip or even swim your five kilometres!

May is usually when Queenscourt’s annual 10K Star Trekk night walk takes place, but as this has been postponed until September, why not take part in 5K May to get yourself fit beforehand.

Dianne Gillespie, Queenscourt’s Event Fundraiser, said: “The ongoing pandemic has had a real impact on our ability to fundraise and we know that many of you are disappointed that we have had to postpone our popular sponsored Star Trekk event to later this year.

“We are hoping that many of our loyal supporters will get involved and take part in 5K May as practice for Star Trekk.

“We need your support more than ever in our Pearl Anniversary year to ensure that #teamqueenscourt can continue to provide compassionate care for local people, when they need us the most.  5k May is the perfect way to kickstart your training for Star Trekk and to help Keep Queenscourt in Service.

“However you choose to get involved, we ask you to nominate five friends to also do their own 5K challenge….and don’t forget to tag Queenscourt in your pictures on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.”
