Volunteers supporting Queenscourt Hospice have collected an incredible 1,800 Christmas trees from local homes across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire in just four days.
It beats last year’s total, when the Queenscourt Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Campaign collected over 1,700 trees and raised over £26,000 for the charity.
This year, Queenscourt’s Fundraising team wanted to do even more to help.
Volunteers and local businesses came together this January to make the campaign happen, donating their time, vehicles, and petrol to collect real Christmas trees, with a minimum suggested donation of just £11 per tree.
These trees have all been dropped off at one of Queensocurt’s chipping sites. The chipped trees are repurposed for biofuel, natural habitats for animals, safer ground for children in local parks, and various other environmentally friendly and sustainable projects.
A Queenscourt Hospice spokesperson said:
“We came, we collected, we conquered!
“A massive THANK YOU to everyone who registered their real Christmas trees this year and supported the Queenscourt Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Campaign. We did it!
“Over the past four days, our incredible volunteers collected over a whopping 1,800 trees – an amazing achievement!
“We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: we couldn’t do this without them. There are so many businesses and individuals that come together which makes this campaign not only possible – but a lot of fun! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
“If we’ve missed your tree, we sincerely apologise! Please let us know by contacting fundraising@queenscourt.org.uk or calling 01704 517420 by Tuesday 14th January, and we’ll arrange for it to be collected.
“A huge thank you also goes out to our sponsors and partners who made this possible:
Flooring UK for sponsoring this campaign and volunteering on the day
Ocean Plaza Southport for supporting us once again with sponsorship
Treeco and Paul Crabtree & Sons for providing chipping equipment and services
canmperz4hire for bringing along a warm van with a kettle to our KGV chipping site
Hickory’s Smokehouse Southport and The Woollen Pig for fuelling our volunteers with a delicious breakfast
Rydal Van Hire and Nationwide Produce PLC for supplying some collection vans to our volunteers
St. John’s Church Ainsdale, KGV Sixth Form College, Heatons Bridge Inn, and North Moss Farm for offering their spaces for tree chipping and conservation work
“We’ll be back soon with our grand total – keep your eyes peeled!
“Thank you all for being part of #teamqueenscourt and making this campaign a huge success!”
