Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has received an award for its work with students at Southport College.
Members of the Non-Medical Education Team and the Apprenticeship Team received the T-Level Partner Employer of the Year award at the college’s Employer Awards Evening for their work to support students gain vital clinical experience to support their career development.
T-Levels give 16 to 19-year-olds a high-quality technical alternative to A-levels and includes a placement period where Southport’s College’s health and social care students spend time in clinical settings at Southport Hospital.
Rachelle Alty, Head of Professional Practice Development for Nursing and Midwifery, oversees the students’ placements and said she was delighted to receive the award.
She said: “The students actually nominated us for this award which was lovely, and it was fantastic to win.
“We put together a programme that sees the students work on a variety of wards and in various clinical settings, so they get as wide an experience of life in a hospital as possible.
“Our staff make a huge effort to help the students when they are with us, and this award is a fitting tribute for their efforts.’’
A spokesperson for Southport College said: “The Employer Awards are a chance to express our gratitude to all of our employer partners.
“These forward thinking, local companies aren’t just offering placements, but they are actively shaping the futures of students and the economy. By providing essential work experience, they help increase the confidence of young people in our area and become sources of inspiration for the next generation of workers.’’
