Schools in Southport have taken swift action today to isolate pupils following positive Covid-19 tests.

Stanley High School reported two positive Covid-19 cases linked to the school, while steps were also taken at Greenbank High School in Southport following a positive Covid-19 test there.

Stanley High School wrote on their Facebook page: “It may feel inevitable that this message would come sooner or later.

“We have had two Covid cases linked to the school.

“An email has been sent to all families to outline our precautionary steps to mitigate against further cases linked to the positive ones we have now.

“We wish you all good health through this worrying time and thank you for your vigilance.”

The school was contacted this morning to let them know that one student had tested positive for Covid-19.

Following guidance from the Department for Education they asked pupils who have been in close contact with the students to isolate for 14 days.

The school will provide remote learning for all those students affected.

The safety of their school community is paramount at this time.

The school told parents that this is a precautionary measure and a decision made to ensure no further chains of passing the virus can take place.

Stanley High also had a positive case in another Year group, with a positive result over the weekend.

All close contacts have been informed and asked to isolate for 14 days.

Stanley High is asking all families to remain vigilant during this time and if anyone spots any symptoms of the virus to please inform school as soon as they are aware of a positive case.

Greenbank High School has had to isolate one class in Year 7 as they are in a class bubble. They will now be engaged in remote learning to maintain their education.

Both Stanley High School and Greenbank High School remain open, with children asked to continue attending class if they are well.

The main symptoms of Coronavirus are:

high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)

  • new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
