People are being invited to enjoy the start of Boxing Day in Southport with a refreshing walk that starts at sunrise.

NHS worker Nicky Bradshaw is organising the ‘Boxing Day morning coastal sunrise walk’

to enable people to get together, shake off any Christmas Day eating, and to help anyone struggling with loneliness or mental health issues.

Walkers are invited to meet up at Costa Coffee in Birkdale Village in Southport at 8am this Sunday (Boxing Day, 26th December).

From Birkdale Village, people will walk down to the coast, along the coastal road, then right up to Marshside Road, onto Preston New Road, onto Lord Street, up Lulworth Road, onto Weld Road and back into Birkdale Village.

People of all ages are welcome.

Nicky said: “I am setting up a Boxing Day morning big walk to help people who are very much struggling with mental health.

“Christmas Day is soul-destroying for a lot of people who hide away the whole Christmas week as it causes depression, for example for people with no family, mental health issues in general, single mums who have to co-parent and are left alone like myself who can’t see family, people in poverty, parents who wants to get their children out away from whatever may be going on at home, mums and dads who have had to spend Christmas alone making it magic for the kids to have another adult to talk to, elderly people on their own with no family or who can’t get to them, addicts trying hard to stay clean – this encourages them not to turn to alcohol or drugs through sadness or loneliness – the list goes on.

“The benefits are: meeting new people; fresh air; walking so many miles is good for the brain; good company; laughs; jokes; being by nature and seeing the sunrise.

“All welcome, all ages, everyone welcome !

“Please share this widely. It could really appeal to someone and make their Christmas!

“I want to get everyone to be aware of this walk in case it helps one or 10 people .

“I’m double vaccinated, starting to work in the Royal Hospital in Liverpool in the new year.

“I will wear a face mask along with taking a lateral flow Covid test in the morning to confirm I am negative.”
