An inspirational Southport schoolgirl is today cycling her last leg in a 400-mile challenge to raise money for Queenscourt Hospice.

Danielle Briscoe, aged 11, has already raised more than £2,900 for her local hospice.

The pupil at St Patrick’s Primary School in Churchtown was inspired to take on the epic journey because the hospice, which is located in Kew in Southport, has looked after family members of her friends.

The distance Danielle has been seeking to complete over the past few weeks is equivalent to cycling from Southport to London and back; going to Liverpool and back 10 times; or Southport to Paris. She has been cycling for 42 hours already on her mission.

Danielle recently celebrated her 11th birthday and is determined to do what she can to help others in our town.

She said: “I have decided to use this time in lockdown to raise money for Queenscourt Hospice in particular because it has helped my friends’ family members and this hospice helps everyone in need.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic they are losing lots of money from public fundraising events which have been cancelled and their charity shops which are closed.

“Please help by sponsoring me during my challenge, any amount will be greatly appreciated.”

Her proud Dad Lee Briscoe, director of BDC Electrical Services Ltd. is backing his daughter all the way.

He said: “After school closed and lockdown started Danielle started doing four-mile bike rides with her five-year-old brother, Liam, for their daily exercise.

“We gradually increased the daily mileage until they were doing 80 to 100 miles a week. “Danielle thought it could be a great idea to try to raise some money for charity.

“Her great uncle and some of her best friends’ family members have benefited from the care given by Queenscourt Hospice and that was the first place she thought of.

“I contacted them and they thought it was a great idea, and now is time to do it.

“The aim is to cycle 100 miles per week to complete 400 miles in the month of June.

“She will ride at least 15 miles a day around the local area which will be increased if she wants any days off.”
