Nurse Josephine Peter, a nurse at Southport Hospital, has died after contracting coronavirus

Over £10,000 has now been raised in memory of a much-loved nurse at Southport Hospital who died with Covid-19.

Josephine Peter died at the hospital on Saturday after testing positive for the disease, leaving behind her husband, Thabo Peter, her two children, Bongani and Buhle, a granddaughter, five sisters and one brother.

Her husband described ‘Manini’ as his ‘heroine’.

A GoFundMe page was set up after Josephine’s death to pay for her funeral and fly her body back to her home country of South Africa.

Nearly 500 people have now pledged their support, raising £10,456 so far.

Money has come in from former colleagues and patients in Southport, other NHS staff around the country, and compatriots in South Africa.

May God comfort her family during this sad time. May she rest in peace.”

Dear doctors, nurses, care workers and of the frontline key workers it is time to stand by your belief and pray to defeat the enemy. God protect and bless you all in Jesus mighty name.”
