Jenny and Cassandra produced the track by gathering together recordings from singers and musicians both in Southport and all over the UK.

Jenny said: “We are overwhelmed with the support the song is having!  We are now at number 46 in the iTunes chart! There is already quite a bit of media interest which is great.

“We all came together to raise as much money as possible for NHS Charities Together and with any luck, we will do!”

Among the artists performing on the track is Southport singer Hayley Murray.

She said: “It feels unreal! It’s even better to say that it’s in the Top 50!

“I am completely overwhelmed by all of the support we have had to get it this far just by sharing on social media with our family and friends. They have been incredible!

“I got involved through Jenny, one of the songwriters. She called me on Sunday, 12th April, and by the following Sunday all vocals had been recorded and were being mixed with the track by the excellent Tom Percy!

“We were all listening to it the day after on the Monday, so it’s mad to think how quickly these things can be turned around when you’re in the company of some extremely talented individuals!”

The united musical collective were delighted to record an original song with all proceeds going to NHS Charities Together.

The composers and producers, Jenny Murphy and Cassandra Kotchie, began the search for talented musicians and singers who could record from home in order to raise money for the NHS during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Jenny said: “I wanted to write a song to pay tribute to our NHS heroes and how we are relying on them to care for our loved ones.

“Pass on the Rainbow began at my piano at home.

“I am a music teacher in primary schools alongside my musical career and my partner is one of the 1.5 million on the critical list that need to be shielded, so I have been unable to go into school to work.

“I started a social media group asking my local friends in Southport to help in recording the song. Before we knew it, singers from all over the country, including a Britain’s Gpt Talent semi-finalist, wanted to take part.”

Cassandra Kotchie, a professional vocalist who is originally from Perth in Australia, was instantly inspired by the idea and was excited to collaborate in writing and producing the song.

She said: “I can’t think of a more valuable reason to be making music right now than to help those on the front line. We are sending every penny generated from this single to NHS Charities Together.

“The professional performers and musicians on this record have all recently lost all sources of income and yet they were all incredibly eager to donate their time and expertise.”

Southport guitarist Martin Fearn was more than happy to help.

He said: “It’s fantastic to be able to use this unexpected time at home to do something worthwhile.”

The song was recorded from over 30 different homes and was put together by Tom Percy.

The record label owner said: “When the announcement came that we should be social distancing and all music events were cancelled, my first thought was on the impact of the local music industry.  I set about creating online collaborative projects for young musicians to work together, recording from home.

“The next week I was furloughed from work when I saw Jenny’s Facebook post. I wanted to get involved in this project as I knew I could help.

“In such unprecedented circumstances, the result of this project is a real testament to Jenny, Cassandra and the musicians taking part.”
