An Ormskirk Hospital children’s specialist praised as a “hero” by families has won this year’s Stand Up for Southport People’s Choice Award.
Conagh Ellis, an Advanced Paediatric Dietitian, was recognised by readers of Stand Up For Southport for the compassionate and dedicated care he provides to children and families receiving support for eating disorders.
Presented at the Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust staff awards, the award celebrates the appreciation of patients and their families, who nominate those who have made a lasting difference to their care.
Described by families as their advocate and their voice, Conagh has gone above and beyond to support children and their loved ones through what can be a challenging and emotional journey, providing unwavering support every step of the way.
Readers praised his compassion, determination and commitment, with one family simply describing him as a “hero”.
The award was presented to Conagh by Stand Up For Southport founder Andrew Brown, and by ITV Granada Reports presenters Ann O’Connor and Zoe Muldoon.
Two other services were also shortlisted for the award and praised by readers for their care and support.
The Phlebotomy Service at Southport Hospital was recognised for the calm and considerate approach the team takes to support patients, particularly those who may feel anxious about procedures.
The Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital was also shortlisted, with staff commended for providing consistent, dignified care and building strong relationships with patients and families during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Staff from across Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust were recognised at the Trust’s annual staff awards, celebrating the dedication,
compassion and professionalism shown every day across its services.
Around 1,000 guests, including staff and partners, attended the ceremony at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena to honour the achievements of colleagues from across the organisation.
A range of awards were presented on the night, recognising both individuals and teams who go above and beyond to deliver high-quality care and support to patients and their families.
