Southport Makers Market

New Southport Makers Markets are due to start this October!

Any traders or artisan makers interested in taking part are being invited to get in touch.

The first event will take place along King Street and Market Street, outside Southport Indoor Market, between 11am and 4pm on Sunday, 2nd October 2022.

Shoppers will then be able to enjoy the regular market on the first Sunday of every month.

Anyone interested in taking part is asked to email: southport.market@sefton.gov.uk

The new events aim to continue the revival of the Market Quarter area of Southport.

Sefton Council has now approved Traffic Regulation Orders for the markets to take place over the next 12 months.

In his report to councillors, Head of Highways & Public Protection Peter Moore said: “To improve the economic revival of Southport Indoor Market following the recent Covid pandemic, the Manager of the market requested that an outdoor market be introduced on King Street and then Market Street. Further to the original approval, it is now intended to extend the hosting of the markets for a further twelve months.

“The location of the markets will be on the same footprint as the existing markets in King Street and Market Street.

“The markets will continue to be held during normal Sunday trading hours of 11am and 4pm and will be held on the first Sunday in every month provisionally for the next twelve months.

“The proposed date for the first market will be Sunday 2nd October 2022.

“It is proposed that the market stalls will be placed on the carriageways of King Street and Market Street.

“To maintain health and safety for the stallholders and for the general public it is therefore necessary for a temporary Traffic Regulation Order to be put in place to close King Street and Market Street to all traffic.

“The Traffic Regulation Order will be in operation for the duration of the market between 6am and 6pm and to allow stallholders to set up and dismantle their stalls at the end of the day.”
