A long line of excited families couldn’t wait to get into the new Toys R Us toy shop when it opened in Southport town centre.
There was a long queue outside as the new store, situated on the first floor above WH Smith on Chapel Street, welcomed its first shoppers at 8.30am on Saturday (26th October 2024).
Geoffrey the Giraffe was there to greet delighted children before they went on to explore what was inside as the first 50 to arrive were handed a Toys R Us goody bag worth £15.
Toys R Us is in the process of opening 37 new concessions within WH Smith stores before Christmas.
The former toy industry leader has confirmed three new shop-in-shops will open every week between September and the end of December.
Speaking in the Stand Up For Southport Facebook group, Katie Hamilton said: “Wow! It looks amazing! Congratulations to the wonderful Manager Michelle Moore and the WH Smith Team! You must have all worked so hard!”
Concessions of Toys R Us shops within WH Smith first started in June last year. This latest expansion will bring this number to 76 in time for the Christmas toy rush.
Managing director of WHSmith High Street Sean Toal said: “Nearly 40 years ago, Toys R Us first came to the UK, and we take great pride in being the steward of this much-loved brand in the UK.
“We’ve had queues around the block for many openings in the last year which tells you just how much people are loving seeing Toys R Us back again. But our job isn’t done yet, and I’m pleased to be bringing the magic of Toys R Us to even more customers over the coming months ready for the best time of year – Christmas!”
