Chord Print Solutions in Southport produces banners, signs, flyers, business cards, stickers, packaging and Covid-19 safety screens and signage

A Southport man is keen to help local businesses to promote themselves and to stay Covid safe as they reopen, after launching his own printing company.

Connor Brown had the determination to set up his own firm after experiencing the lack of opportunities available for young people due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He has already completed work for a number of clients including NatWest, Fletchers Solicitors, Purely Pizza, Brough’s Butchers, Peet’s Plaice and many others, producing banners, signs, flyers, business cards, stickers, packaging and Covid-19 safety screens and signage.

Connor, aged 18, was looking forward to leaving Winstanley College in Lancashire last Summer after taking his A-Level exams and to start finding a new career.

But last March the Covid-19 pandemic struck leading to the first national lockdown, and making life incredibly tough for young people in the UK.

Connor has taken the experiences of the last few months in his stride to set up Chord Print Solutions and launch his own career.

Now he is asking local businesses to invest in his skills, his knowledge and his passion for producing materials that can help them to thrive.

He said: “I was due to finish college in June 2020 after sitting my A-Levels. Unfortunately, we were sent home from college in the middle of March, cutting off interaction, experience and learning almost immediately.

“I continued to complete college work at home for the next few weeks until we were told our exams were cancelled and that nothing we did after that date would be taken into account.

“I had no intention to go to university when I left college. After years of education and exams I felt I suited practical learning and on-the-job training much better, immersing myself in real life roles and absorbing everything around me.

“After months of planning and reaching out, I had successfully arranged a job in commercial property based in Manchester for as soon as I finished college. Embarking on a journey in an industry new to me had countless opportunities to learn, explore and diversify my skills.

“This sadly fell through due to the Covid pandemic no longer putting the company in a position to invest in me.”

Connor’s determination to work hard never waned. He put the disappointment of his Manchester experience behind him and began finding work for himself.

He said: “I couldn’t not do anything for so long after working so hard in college.

“This led to the development of my Covid-19 safety signage range, working under Magnetic Activation, based in Lancashire.

“This really took off, and I helped over 60 local businesses across Merseyside and Lancashire to become Covid safe and ready for operation during lockdown restrictions.

“It was absolutely crucial to making new contacts and meeting new people who became good customers and have stayed that way since. It was humbling to receive such a good response to my efforts in helping to make the region safer.”

His successful experience of working for himself has now led Connor to launch his own company, Chord Print Solutions.

He had previously applied for scores of jobs where he had relevant knowledge, training and experience, in sports marketing and events.

He said: “As I am sure everyone is aware, the job market for young people is very tough right now, especially in the hospitality industry.

“I have now decided to launch and develop my own business using my experience gained from the past year and the experience and knowledge I continue to pick up and learn in signage and print.

“This was a journey that kind of began in March 2020 but now, 12 months later, is really taking shape as its own company.

“I am very fortunate to have some fantastic clients on board already.

“As shops, restaurants, offices, pubs, gyms and so many other businesses look forward to reopening after the latest national Covid lockdown, I look forward to helping them produce exciting branding & advertising, refreshing their image or creating something completely new. We can help you through it step by step from design through to production and then installation.
