A new seven court padel tennis facility in Netherton will be the first of its kind in the North West to be specifically designed to competition standards, including one Grade A court designed to future Olympic standards.

Proposals have been submitted to create the new scheme as part of the extension at The Park Hotel on Dunnings Bridge Road in Netherton.

A planning application reveals ambitions to build a new five story extension at the hotel, with 40 new hotel rooms, increasing the number of rooms from 62 to 102.

The submission by WD Architects said: “The proposed Padel tennis facility has been designed to fit onto the vacant land to the rear of the hotel. The land is enclosed on all sides by a supermarket and industrial warehouse buildings and is hidden from the street by the hotel itself.

“The addition of the new rooms and the Padel tennis facility will ensure the longevity and development of the hotel for years to come.

“There is a rich history of sporting facilities in the immediate area. Opposite the hotel currently sits the Goals football facility. Further along Dunnings Bridge Road is the Bootle Golf Club facility and Aintree racecourse is half a mile away.

“Rampworks skate park, martial arts facilities and a gym facility are all within half a mile of the hotel and so a precedent for sporting pastimes is well established in the area.

“The Padel tennis facility will be the first facility in the North West to be specifically designed to competition standards and aims to become a hub for training and competitions in this exciting new sport.

“The Padel court facility has also been designed to be fully inclusive with level access to the reception / changing facilities, wheelchair accessible changing facilities and ramped access down to the lower level of the courts.

“The courts have been designed in accordance with the Lawn Tennis Associations guidelines and will cater for 6 practice courts and 1 ‘Grade A’ court which will be able to be used for competition purposes and has been designed to future Olympic standards.”
