Sefton Carers Centre’s Chair of Trustees has been recognised as part of the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Mo Kundi has been honoured with a MBE in recognition of his achievements and services to Sefton Carers Centre. The honour has been bestowed as part of the King’s official birthday celebrations

Mo has been the Chair of the Board of Trustees with Sefton Carers Centre since 2014. The Centre is a charity which is dedicated to supporting unpaid carers from the age of 5 living in Sefton. Since Mo became Chair, the Centre’s services have increased to support over 12,500 unpaid carers, people who care for a family member or friend who have a long-term illness or life limiting condition. As well as being Chair of Trustees, Mo also supports two other charities and has given his time as a governor to a local college.

Sefton Carers Centre, Chair of Trustees, Mo Kundi, said:

“I am very honoured, thrilled and humbled to receive this award but feel this is more for the unsung heroes that are the unpaid carers in Sefton and across the UK, and the staff that work extremely hard to provide support and services to enable carers to care.”

Sefton Carers Centre CEO, Vicky Keeley, said:

“Mo has been pivotal in the development of Sefton Carers Centre and has been at the heart of our charity for over 11 years. Mo has worked tirelessly in his support for unpaid carers and the people of Sefton. I am delighted and thrilled at this national recognition which is so well deserved.”

National charity, Carers Trust CEO, Kirsty McHugh said:

‘On behalf of our UK network of local carers services, we are delighted that Mo Kundi has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list. Sefton Carers Centre sits at the heart of its community, supporting unpaid carers of all ages in really stretching circumstances.  Both the role of unpaid carers and the local organisations that support them can be under-recognised in our society, so it is wonderful to see Mo’s dedicated and selfless service being recognised in this way.’

Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health at Sefton Council, Councillor Ian Moncur, said: “I’m brilliant to see Mo get this recognition – he’s done so much for the community. It’s very much a partnership approach in Sefton and it’s people like Mo that make a real difference.”

Sefton Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), CEO, Angela White OBE,FRSA, said:

“I am delighted to hear that Mo Kundi is to receive a national honour and well deserved recognition for his contribution to the charitable sector in Sefton. He has been an outstanding Chair of Sefton Carers Centre and through his governance established it as a leading North West charity.”
