Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group has been awarded the contract to operate the newly developed Queen's Market in Rhyl

Mikhail Hotel & Leisure Group is proud to announce that it has been granted the contract to operate the newly developed Queen’s Market in Rhyl.

The fast-growing firm already operates 13 sites in Southport and across Merseyside, including:

The Grand (The Grand Brasserie, Chloé’s Piano Bar, The Princess Grace Suite), Maverick’s, Punch Tarmey’s Authentic Irish Bar, The Bold Hotel, the Lord Street Hotel and the centre bar within Southport Market.

Following a rigorous and competitive tender process, Denbighshire County Council’s Cabinet has now selected Mikhail Hotel & Leisure Group as the operator for this exciting new venture in Wales.

The announcement follows on the success from the group’s involvement working with Sefton Council in the ever-popular Southport Market which opened in July 2021.

The group, known for its successful hospitality brands such as The Grand and The Bold Hotel in Southport, ArCains, and Punch Tarmey’s in Cains Brewery Village in Liverpool, has demonstrated its exceptional capabilities in the industry.

The decision to award the contract to Mikhail Hotel & Leisure Group aligns with the council’s vision for the market, and the group will work closely with the local authority to realise their shared vision for the interior of the market.

The £12.6 million Queen’s Market, scheduled for completion in summer 2023, will serve as a versatile indoor market hall, housing a variety of food and drink vendors, as well as providing a flexible space for events and commercial activities.

The development includes 16 individual food and retail units, a double-sided bar, a spacious events area, and an external space suitable for markets, events, and seating.

Construction on the site commenced in August of last year, with Wynne Construction, based in Bodelwyddan, appointed by the Council for the design and construction. The building is set to be handed over to Denbighshire County Council on July 17. Councillor Jason McLellan, Leader of Denbighshire County Council and Lead Member for Economic Growth and Tackling Deprivation, emphasised the Council’s commitment to the long-term development of Rhyl, with the new market being a significant part of their overall vision. The project will create numerous job opportunities and offer both residents of Denbighshire and visitors from afar a unique retail experience.

Andrew Mikhail, Chairman of Mikhail Hotel & Leisure Group, said:

“During my meeting with the local council prior to submitting our bid, I could sense their immense passion for this undertaking. It resonated with me, as all our venues operate with the same fervour and dedication. It is precisely this spirit that we intend to infuse into Rhyl!

“Having treasured numerous childhood memories in Rhyl, from joyful moments at the Sun Centre to unintentional beachside adventures while fishing with my grandad, I am thrilled to witness the community being bestowed with such an exceptional establishment. It is an honour to serve the people of Rhyl, recognising their invaluable role in the success of the venue, especially during the challenging off-peak months. Together with the community, we will ensure the success of this venture. We eagerly look forward to meeting you all in the near future.
