Merseyrail is celebrating after being named Public Service of the Year at the 2025 Your Southport Stars Awards.
The accolade, announced at a packed ceremony held at The Grand in Southport on Tuesday 13th May 2025, was awarded in recognition of Merseyrail’s commitment to exceptional service, reliability, and the vital role its staff play in the daily lives of local residents.
The win follows a public vote in the People’s Choice Award category, with Merseyrail triumphing in a competitive field of local service providers.
Last month Merseyrail sponsored the Sefton Young Sportsperson Of The Year Award – won by Grace Eccles and Melissa Mosscrop – at the 2025 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards.
The Your Southport Stars Awards, organised by Southport BID, shine a light on the people and organisations making a real difference in the town. This year’s event attracted more than 60,000 votes across 12 categories, and over 150 guests attended the evening to honour the winners.
The award was accepted by Sally Ralston BEM, Merseyrail’s Head of Community and Engagement, alongside Stella Johnson, Station Manager for Southport to Ainsdale.
Speaking at the event Sally Ralston MBE said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award. It’s a powerful recognition of the hard work and dedication shown by our station teams and frontline colleagues across the network.
“For our efforts to be acknowledged by the local community through a public vote means the world to us.
“Merseyrail is proud to be at the heart of Southport’s everyday life, and we remain committed to delivering a safe, reliable and great value service that the communities we serve can count on.”
