Melissa Mosscrop and Grace Eccles have been recognised for their immense talent as they were awarded the 2025 Sefton Young Sportsperson of The Year Awards sponsored by Merseyrail.
Melissa and Grace were presented with their accolades at the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards at The Grand in Southport.

Melissa Moscrop, 16, was honoured for her huge dedication to the sport of cycling.
Melissa has been road and track cycling since the age of eight and she spends hours and hours each week training, sacrificing nearly all of her spare time.
Her commitment to her training is truly impressive and she consistently pushes herself to improve. She sets herself high standards and continually strives to refine her technique, speed and endurance.

All her hard work recently paid off when she was selected for Team GB’s national talent programme (known as NSR foundation) being one of only ten female riders, in her age group, to be picked from across Great Britain.
One of the main aims of the talent pathway is to support the development of riders year-on-year who can transition into the Great Britain Cycling Team (GBCT) programmes, the GBCT Performance Pathways support the development journey for the country’s most promising riders all the way to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Grace Eccles made British history at the Aerobic World Age Group Championships by being the first person to get an aerobic gymnastics medal for GBR let alone the silver medal!
Grace was just 14 years old. An amazing achievement which takes a lot of time and dedication.
It has helped increase knowledge and understanding about a lesser known gymnastics discipline.

The Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards are organised annually by Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport with media support from In Demand Radio, with each of the 13 categories sponsored by supportive local businesses.
Over 2,000 nominations were received for this year’s Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards.
