Contractors are due to begin the next stage of works to build the new £73 million Marine lake Events Centre in Southport following the Easter break.

Workers will carry out the process of sheet piling, in the next stage of the construction of the exciting new facility.

The new MLEC, which is being led by Southport Council, is estimated to attract an additional 515,000 new visitors to Southport every year and attract an additional £18 million to the local economy.

Last month, Sefton Council announced that it has procured one of the UK’s leading contractors, GRAHAM, to oversee the delivery of the incredible Marine Lake Events Centre project

A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “Following completion of demolition and site clearance works recently, our contractors are preparing to start sheet piling works shortly after the Easter break.

“Sheet Piling is a hugely important enabling step ahead of construction.

“Strong, flat pieces of metal are pressed into the ground to form a solid wall, providing strength and stability to areas of the site.

“Further details to nearby residents will be issued in due course as we get ready to complete the demolition works and handover to our construction contractor GRAHAM Group.”

GRAHAM has been confirmed as the preferred bidder to build the state of th, with construction works due to begin later this year.

A pre-construction services agreement is now in place between GRAHAM and Sefton Council.
The Marine Lake Events Centre will be a world-class events destination, featuring a state-of-the-art theatre and auditorium and an exhibition centre equipped with advanced production facilities, retail concessions, café and restaurant.
