There are lots of reasons for families to visit Southport to enjoy their half term break.

Silcock Leisure Group has been busy welcoming people to enjoy rides on its historic Silccok’s Carousel, which is open every day for people of all ages to enjoy.

Families can call into Silcock’s Funland, Southport’s biggest indoor amusement centre.

It is fantastic value, with games starting at just 2p, and food items available from just £1 upwards in the Funland cafe.

Visitors can enjoy the famous seaside tradition of fish and chips while sitting inside or outside Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant, which has beautiful views across the nearby King’s Gardens and the Marine Lake.

All three sit proudly on the Promenade, a scenic part of the seaside resort between the Lord Street boulevard and the seafront.

Silcock’s Operations Manager Serena Silcock-Prince said:

“We are really enjoying this half term period!

“This week we have themed up for Halloween. Our staff will be in Halloween fancy dress this weekend, and we have lots of fantastic Halloween prizes to be won in our Funland Prize shop, including items from the popular Wednesday movie.

“It’s fantastic to see Southport so busy with lots of families.

“Schools in Sefton are off this week, and then schools in Liverpool are off for half term next week. I know lots of families are looking forward to visiting Southport.

“It’s an opportunity for children to enjoy some great days out in Southport for some fun before they head back to school.

“Next week, once Halloween has finished, we will be looking forward to Christmas!

“On 1st November we will start putting up our Christmas decorations and will give people the chance to win all their Christmas presents at Funland.

“There are so many things for people to enjoy in Southport this autumn, with some great places to visit and lots of events happening.”

The 121-year-old Silcock’s Carousel was built in 1901 in the reign of Queen Victoria.

In September it was recognised as the fourth best seaside attraction in Britain in the 2023 Bucket and Spade List, organised by the The Seaside Heritage Network.

Herbert Silcock’s Golden Gallopers, on Southport Pier Forecourt, weighs 18 tons, is 42 ft in diameter and 18 ft tall.

The Gallopers ride features 33 horses, each named after members of the Silcock family or family friends, and one dedicated to Princess Anne after her recent visit to the resort.
