The Lord Street In Bloom volunteers have been awarded an ASDA Southport Community Diamond Award.
In two weeks’ time, six of the volunteers are heading to London, where they have been invited to the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
They have had a busy year.
Last summer, following the tragedy in Southport, they were in the Town Hall Gardens in front of The Atkinson on Lord Street seven days a week looking after all the tributes and flowers which had been left by thousands of well-wishers.
This year, they have been working hard to improve the Town Hall Gardens, alongside support from Sefton Council, Dowhigh, Southport BID and others.
They have revamped all the flower beds around the edges, with the result they are now bursting with colour with a wide array of flowers.
They have overseen the introduction of planters around the fountain, which have been created by Bootle Tool Shed, and have been busy planting them up.
They have been out in all weathers doing all they can to improve the area, while also maintaining gardens, flower beds and planters along the mile-long Lord Street.
Sharon Gregory-Wareing from ASDA said: “The ASDA Southport Community Diamond Award goes to the Lord Street in Bloom Volunteers whose work this past year has made a huge difference to our town centre.
“Their work has been vital to the town centre turning the Town Hall Gardens into vibrant, colourful gardens where families can come sit and reflect after the tragic events of last year.
“King Charles met with some of the volunteers last August in Southport.
“In two weeks’ time, six of the volunteers have been invited to the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
“Well done everyone.”
