The Lord Street In Bloom Garden Volunteers have been awarded a £3,000 grant through the Asda Foundation.
The volunteers, led by Pauline Morris, have done an immense job in improving the gardens in and around Lord Street in Southport town centre over several years, bringing new flowers, colour and civic pride.
Last summer they spent every day working tirelessly tending the thousands of flowers left in the aftermath of the Southport tragedy.
This week they have been busy again, leading the initiative to install and develop new planters in the Town Hall Gardens.
Southport Asda Community Champion Sharon Gregory-Wareing said: “Congratulations to Lord Street in Bloom which has received an Asda Foundation grant of £3,000.
“Much needed work is being carried out in the Town Hall Gardens which have become a focal point in Southport where people can come and reflect on what happened last July.
“People from far and wide came to leave thousands of flowers to remember the three young girls who died.
“Our group wanted to create an inviting space full of colour to brighten up the area.
“This gorgeous weather that we are having has certainly made the tulips blossom.
“Work is far from over – there’s still more planting to do.”
