AMP EV, a Lancashire-based electric vehicle charging company, has reported growth of 250% in the year since its director attended a sustainability summit linked to King Charles III’s Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI).
Alasdair Croft, director of AMP EV, was invited to the event at Hampton Court Palace last year, marking the SMI’s fifth anniversary.
The initiative, founded by the King five years ago, brings together around 400 businesses from across the Commonwealth and beyond with a focus on sustainability, economic growth and job creation.
Alasdair’s invitation followed a trade delegation to COP29 in Baku, organised through the British and Dutch Chambers of Commerce and partly supported by Lancashire County Council and REDCAT, where he represented the region’s EV charging sector to international investors.
At the Hampton Court event, Alasdair was seated at a roundtable alongside high-profile figures including former US Secretary of State John Kerry and Australian industrialist Andrew Forrest, among international business leaders discussing sustainable innovation across sectors including transport, energy and manufacturing.
AMP EV, which provides electric vehicle charging infrastructure, said the recognition had raised the company’s profile both nationally and internationally, though it was cautious about directly attributing its growth to the event alone.
The firm operates from its headquarters at Greaves Hall Industrial Estate in Banks, West Lancashire, after moving from its previous base on Duke Street in Southport due to expansion.
AMP EV Managing Director Alasdair Croft said:
“We’ve grown by 250% since then, I wouldn’t say that’s solely down to one event, but it’s certainly raised our exposure and helped establish AMP EV’s reputation in the sustainability space, both here and in the Netherlands.”
Before entering the EV sector, Alasdair spent over two decades in the fire alarm and security systems industry, a background he says gave him transferable skills in networking, systems integration and customer service now applied to EV charging infrastructure.
He said:
“One thing is clear. There’s a real opportunity for growth within the sustainability sector. That was clear at the event, where we saw a sector driven by both opportunity and purpose.
“As we continue to grow, we hope to bring more local people on board and make them part of our journey.”
AMP EV is continuing to expand its operations across Lancashire and nationwide and support the local economy in their transition to electric vehicles.
