People are invited to enjoy the launch of a brand new book in Southport this weekend! 

Southport Illustrated by local artist Ruth Spillane features stunning artwork of beautiful scenes across Southport.

The launch will take place at Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant on the Promenade in Southport between 11am and 1pm this Saturday (7th October 2023).

Scenes included inside include Lord Street, Silcock’s Funland, The Grand, Wayfarers Arcade, June The Florist, Birkdale Village, Churchtown Village, The Atkinson, Kenworthy Mansions, Broadhurst’s Bookshop, Southport Market Quarter, Dune Radio and more.

The book was published on 1st October and costs £25 via pre-order or at the book signing.

Ruth will be signing copies of her new book, chatting with people about the inspiration for her artwork, and selling her unique prints, calendars and tote bags. This year’s calendar will feature all new scenes to last year’s version.

“We are all really looking forward to Ruth’s book signing on Saturday! 

“We have had a really good response since the news was announced. 

“Saturday is forecast to be a beautiful day weather wise too so it should be good! 

“Ruth has been posting some of the images from her new book on social media. I have loved seeing all the comments. 

“People have been saying that her artwork of Southport is so vibrant, so colourful and so uplifting. 

“It really makes you smile looking at it.

“A copy of the book signed by Ruth will make a beautiful Christmas gift for anyone from Southport, or anyone who loves visiting Southport. 

“It is a really beautiful book. It makes a lovely keepsake. 

“The book signing will be a fabulous event, with a special area for the signing while our pier restaurant will be open. 

“It’s a great chance to come people to come along, meet and have a chat with Ruth, sit and have a coffee.”

Southport Illustrated by local artist Ruth Spillane has been several months in the making.

Ruth’s painstakingly detailed artwork celebrates the very best of the beautiful seaside resort, with each work taking at least two days to create.

Ruth, who has been inspired over the years by art in Paris, London, New York, Moscow and other places around the world, believes that “nothing compares to the variety and beauty we have here in Southport”.

She said: “I love creating scenes around Southport in a unique illustrative style.

“My artwork focuses on how buildings and scenes look in the present, while also putting my little twist on it.

“I love uncovering all the history and heritage about this amazing place.

“I hope my book shows Southport for the wonderful town that it is.”
