Gyms owners in Southport and across the Liverpool City Region have revealed their delight after the Government revealed that gyms will now be allowed to reopen fully.
Gyms, leisure centres and fitness studios had been ordered to close as part of the new Tier 3 Covid-19 safety restrictions which came into force in the Liverpool City Region last Wednesday (14 October).
New Tier 3 restrictions which have been introduced since then in Lancashire and Greater Manchester however have allowed gyms in their areas to remain open.
Gym owners across Merseyside and Halton have argued that gyms are maintained in a Covid secure manner with lots of social distancing and hygiene measures in place.
They also insist that gyms are vital for maintaining people’s physical health and mental health and wellbeing. Scientists have recognised obesity and poor health as among contributory factors to more severe impacts among Coronavirus patients.
They included personal trainer Lisa Little, who opened her brand new From The Block gym under Bliss Hotel, on The Waterfront Complex in Southport earlier this month, just nine days before the new Tier 3 restrictions came into force.
Lisa said: “I genuinely feel like I have had the life injected back into me! I am over the moon.
“Finally, myself and every other gym owner can get back to helping the fight against Covid, supporting people with weight related health issues, mental health issues and promoting a healthy lifestyle to all of our clients.

“On a personal note, I would like to reach out to the guys over in the Wirral Nick at Body Tech and every other person that has stood up and been counted!
“Together we are most definitely stronger.”
Southport MP Damien Moore said: “I have been informed by the government this morning that gyms can reopen across Merseyside from this Friday.
“Well done to all those who campaigned to reverse the decision. Our region should never have been placed in this precarious position.”
