A couple who sadly lost a baby in 2021 say a new quiet room at Ormskirk Hospital will make a huge difference to grieving families and patients receiving bad news.
Rachael and Lee Mcardle’s daughter Mila was stillborn at Ormskirk Hospital and the couple wanted to do something that would help others who would go through a similarly devastating experience in the future.
Southport businessman Lee, who owns Red Lion Caravans in the town, and Rachael worked with Bereavement Midwife Jo Unsworth to see what they could do to help and the idea for the quiet room was raised.
Once the idea was agreed Lee and Rachael embarked on a fundraising mission and hosted two golf days and other events which raised more than £15,000 for the brightly decorated, homely, new room which is now in place.
Rachael, who is now the proud mum of baby twins Nancy and Zander, said: “The room is lovely and will make a massive difference for anyone who is receiving any sort of bad news.
“You never forget the moment you receive that bad news and a room like this will just go to help make a terrible situation a little bit nicer for people.
“We really hope the room helps others in the future.’’
Jo passed on her thanks to the couple for their support.
She said: “Rachael and Lee have been amazing and it’s fantastic to see the result of their hard work.
“The room is lovely and will make a big difference to those people who use it.’’
