A brilliant Southport cake baker has just enjoyed the Hollywood seal of approval!
Leanne Prescott, owner of Cake Corner, said “it still doesn’t feel real” after movie star Will Ferrell was impressed by her millionaire shortbread.
Leanne, 22, expanded her thriving Cake Corner unit inside Southport Market into a new bigger unit in the venue in December.
She began her venture in 2016 and now has three venues in Southport and Ormskirk.
Leanne, 22, posted: “WOW!! What an unbelievable moment this was for us today.
“The man himself Will Ferrell!!! has tried our kinder Millionaire shortbread [and] honestly still doesn’t feel real!! I did tear up this morning when I seen this picture.
“Thank you so much to one of our lovely customers who got the chance to meet Will and gave him one of our cakes.”
Leanne told the ECHO: “I couldn’t believe it. The customer came in and he works for the Premier League. He showed me the picture and I just screamed the shop down, we had customers in as well.
“He comes in quite a bit and jokes that he uses our cakes to get people into his meetings. At first, I thought he was going to show me a photo of an ex-player at Anfield but I couldn’t believe it when it was Will Ferrell. I would never dream of it happening.”
Leanne opened her first Cake Corner venture at Crown Buildings in Hillside, opposite The Crown pub, in July last year.
She followed that by opening her new Cake Corner stall inside Southport Market in November 2021, just in time for Christmas.
Her venture has proved to be so popular that she has just moved into new larger premises in the landmark site, which allows her to offer even more tasty treats to customers.
Leanne said: “We have now opened our new stall at Southport Market!
“As we are now in a bigger stall, we have decided to offer a large range of desserts, from freshly made waffles to our usual delicious cakes!
“Thank you to my amazing staff for helping me out, I couldn’t do it without you all!
“Come and see us.”
In 2023 Sefton Council will carry out plans to improve the area still further, with part of Market Street pedestrianised to allow more outdoor seating and outdoor events, plus wider pavements and a one-way traffic system on King Street.
Cake Corner is the first venture by self-taught baker Leanne Prescott andtown is already proving to be a huge success with local people.
