People can get the chance to see some of the military’s most iconic helicopters flying above the area next week.
They are visiting Altcar Army Camp in Hightown in order to carry out essential training.
Part of their work will include flying at night, and local residents are being thanked for their understanding while these sorties take place.
Commandant at the base, Colonel Gordon Black, said: “Altcar Training Camp will host an military aviation exercise from Sunday 19 July until Friday 24 July.
“Up to eight helicopters, including Chinook, Merlin and Wildcat will operate daily between approximately midday and 3.30am.
“In order to meet all training objectives the aircrew are required to achieve a number of night sorties; unfortunately during the summer months and the later hours of darkness, this necessarily means flying through to the early hours of the morning.
“Aircraft routing in and out of Altcar Camp has been planned to minimise disruption as far as possible and the continued support of the Hightown and Formby community is very much appreciated during this essential training.”
