The owners of the Heimat specialty coffee shop on Wesley Street in Southport have thanked their customers as they announced they are closing later this month.
The business is owned by local couple and coffee lovers Nate Augustin, who was born and raised in Southport, and Miriam Augustin, who grew up in Paderborn, in Westphalia in Germany.
They said: “Through our love and passion for what we do, we believe we’ve made an impact on individuals, if not the specialty coffee culture and climate of Southport.”
They launched their website, www.sehnsucht.coffee before deciding to open their first high street coffee shop in December 2021.
They describe Sehnsucht Coffee as “a roastery birthed out of a few simple ideas, like what if a coffee business was owned by coffee nerds”.
The venue serves up seasonal roasts in micro batches, cakes and light bites.
Heimat is a German word meaning ‘home’.
Nate and Miriam said: “It’s been 544 days since we first opened our doors on Wesley Street.
“We were excited to serve delicious specialty coffee, bites and bakes. Through our love and passion for what we do, we believe we’ve made an impact on individuals, if not the specialty coffee culture and climate of Southport.
“We’ve always said that there’s more to coffee – we’ve loved conversing with you about coffee, business, faith and politics and everything in between.
“We’ve had changes of every kind – we’ve drunk wine, changed food menus (several times), and retail packaging maybe more often somehow! But in 12 days we’re closing up shop on Wesley Street.
“We chose the name Heimat because we wanted to create a space that evoked belonging, familiarity.
“We wanted to invite you into our living room or kitchen and serve you as an extension of our own home.
“When we started we had the capacity to do that, but our lives have changed.
“Heimat will continue to remain in some parts – the roastery 100%.
|”But on the 28th of May we will be closing the doors of 6 Wesley Street.
“We’ll be announcing more through our Instagram page as the week goes on – but it has been our pleasure to serve you, the people of Southport, as Heimat on Wesley Street. See you soon! Love Miri + Nate.”
