People are being urged to keep our beaches litter free today with Southport set to swelter in temperatures of up to 29 degrees Celsius.

The heatwave is expected to bring numbers of people to the coast and warnings have been issued for visitors to maintain social distancing and to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.

Green Sefton, the Sefton Council team which manages our coastline, has provided skips at Southport Beach, Ainsdale Beach, Burbo Bank and Crosby Coastal Park.

A Green Sefton spokesman said: “With fine weather forecast for Friday along the Sefton  coast we hope daytrippers enjoy their visits.

“If you are planning to come to the coast, please remember to observe social distancing measures when necessary, leave only footprints and take only photographs.

”We ask all visitors to take rubbish home with them – if you carried it here you can carry it back – or use the skips provided on the coast at Crosby Coastal Park, Burbo Bank, Ainsdale and Southport.

“You really can’t miss them, they’re festooned with great big banners featuring artwork by 4th Crosby Scouts Amelie, Evie and Isaac. Superb work guys…

“Visitors are also reminded that fires, BBQs and camping are NOT allowed on the Sefton  coast – this is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and is essentially a nature reserve, protected for its wildlife and landscape features from Southport to Crosby.

“Please enjoy your visit and respect this incredible coastline.”
