Ste McCann is organising the Throw Down To Help Out fitness event to raise money for mental health charity MIND

Gyms and personal trainers in Southport and West Lancashire are putting their weight behind a fundraiser to raise money for a mental health charity.

The charity CrossFit & Deadlift event takes place on Sunday, 12 September 2021, with other gyms, personal trainers and fitness enthusiasts invited to join in.

Throw Down To Help Out aims to raise awareness and funds for the charity MIND and other mental health services.

Exercise and fitness is a proven way to help decrease symptoms of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, and sadly 2020/21 has seen many health and fitness businesses forced to close their doors to the public.

However local resident Ste McCann didn’t want this extremely important outlet for hundreds of people to be forgotten.

He also wanted to raise the issue of increasingly raising numbers of people affected by poor mental health.

Lisa Little, owner of From The Block Fitness at The Waterfront in Southport, said: “Ste has brought together many local independent gyms and many more local personal trainers, to come together and co host this exciting charity event on 12th September 2021.

“This 12 hour fitness and deadlift event will see all of the gyms involved, their trainers and clients take part in various workouts every hour on the hour for 12 hours. The event will begin at 7am.

“Each workout can be scaled to suit all levels from total novice to athlete and everyone is invited to get involved.

“On the day the gyms will keep in touch via zoom and go live on their social media platforms, so people can even join in from home.

“Free Zoom classes have already begun to raise awareness of the event, the page, and to build a community, to encourage more people to train in a fun environment with plenty of support.

“Ste would like to invite as many people as possible to get involved in these totally free workouts and to keep up to date with all the latest news, follow the events Instagram page @throwdowntohelpout.”

Some of the businesses already involved in the event include From The Block Fitness, Kinetics Personal Fitness Southport, CrossFit ASG Southport, Strong & Fhit, Unity Strength & Conditioning, The Warehouse Gym Southport, The PT Unit Skelmersdale, and more.
