Southport BID feature by Andrew Brown Stand Up For Southport
Giant inflatable flowers are all set to bloom in Southport town centre this week.
The ‘Gigantic Garden’ display will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Southport Flower Show, the largest independent flower show in the UK, which opens this Thursday (15th August 2024) and runs until Sunday (18th August 2024). .
Visitors to Southport town centre will be able to enjoy three towering sunflowers, an impressive wildflower, and a striking electric-blue dahlia flower.
Southport BID (Business Improvement District) have organised the display, which will be in place at the Town Hall Gardens, Southport this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The inflatable flowers will now be displayed beside the Lord Street Bandstand, so as not to disturb the hundreds of floral tributes which have been placed in the Town Hall Gardens over the past two weeks.
The display will provide the perfect selfie opportunity for locals, visitors, and green-fingered flower fanatics.
Rachel Fitzgerald, Southport BID CEO said,
“Southport Flower Show is an important piece of Southport’s heritage and identity. 100 years of success is an incredible achievement and a milestone that is worth recognising.
“The Gigantic Garden will encourage Flower Show attendees to engage with the town centre during their visit to Southport, and highlight the positive collaboration between the event and the local businesses.
“Initiatives like this are all made possible through the investments of the Southport BID business community.”
Southport Flower Show returns to Victoria Park from Thursday 15th August 2024 until Sunday 18th August 2024, between 10am and 6pm.
The Show is a vital part of Southport’s events calendar, attracting over 55,000 visitors into the area each year and generating over £4.5m of revenue for the local economy.
The 100th edition of the Show is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before, with four fun-filled days of flowers, food and family entertainment.
Culinary stars such as Simon Rimmer and Nisha Katona are set to delight crowds, after Southport’s very own Adele Roberts opens the Show on Thursday.
