A restaurant manager who was born in the Austrian Alps is excited to be in charge of Bistrot Pierre in Southport with big ambitions to take the stylish venue to new heights.

David Dickson took over as General Manager on 23rd September, and has enjoyed a whirlwind introduction to the busy eatery, which enjoys one of the best locations – and some of the best views – in the town centre.

Bistrot Pierre is situated on the corner of Lord Street and Nevill Street, with its huge floor to ceiling windows across two floors allowing diners to look out across London Square and along the historic Lord Street boulevard.

David has already begun implementing some changes which are sure to impress customers, with more to come.

The 38-year-old said: “I have been here a few weeks now, and I am really enjoying the experience. It has gone fast!

“This is a particularly busy time for Bistrot Pierre and for Southport with Christmas approaching.

“Our Christmas menus have had a nostalgic makeover this year, with some festive favourites for everyone.

“I am really looking forward to the big Festive Fun Day in Southport on Saturday 23rd November 2024. There’s a fantastic line-up for people to look forward to and many reasons for families to enjoy the town that day, with lots going on throughout the town centre.

“We are looking forward to welcoming people to come and dine with us, or call in for a drink or two, both on that day, and over the coming weeks.”

People can expect some exciting changes coming to Bistrot Pierre.

The restaurant has been famous for its French inspired food since it opened in the former Russell & Bromleys unit in 2012.

Customers enjoy both inside, and also sitting outside on their outdoor terrace, the perfect place to relax and wind down with coffee, cake, cocktails and delicious food.

Open every day from 9am for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the venue offers something for everyone in this cosy bistrot.

The second floor meanwhile makes the perfect setting for private parties or events, perfect for Christmas celebrations.

David said: “We have just taken the bold move to re-introduce real ale at Bistrot Pierre.

“Some people know that my background has been in pubs and so I thought I’d bring my passion and knowledge here for you all to enjoy.

“We have teamed up with Southport’s own local brewer to bring you the very best they have to offer.

“We are working with Southport Brewery to offer either of IPA or award winning Golden Sands, at just £4.50 a pint.

“We have always had a good reputation for our formal dining experience, and we want to let people know that Bistrot Pierre is also a great place where people can call in for a drink too.

“I want to take away the formal dining element and make it a more casual experience for families, making it a more relaxed place.

“We would like to be able to attract more younger people, in their 20s and 30s, than we have been doing.”

It’s a town that David is thrilled to be back in, especially with Christmas around the corner.

He said: “It’s fantastic to be back in Southport. I love being in this town.

“I enjoyed working here, at the Coronation pub, in 2016 and 2017.

“I am very good friends with Clare Rankin, who used to run The Guelder Rose pub in Southport; their daughter, Harley, is my goddaughter.

“I’ve enjoyed being able to spend more time with them, and to see the many friends I’ve made in Southport.

“Originally I am from Austria, from Ischgl in Tyrol.

“I was then raised in St Asaph in North Wales and then left when I was 21 years old to go and work in London, and then the south coast, east and west Sussex, Reading, and Cambridge.

“I have worked in lots of different places across my 20 years of working within this industry.

“Before here, I was based in Liverpool city centre, doing relief cover for the Stonegate pub company.

“It’s been brilliant to be able to move back to Southport.

“It is such a beautiful town. The architecture is stunning.

“I can’t wait for Christmas! I really like what Southport BID has been doing to improve the town.

“You look out from our windows and you can see all the lights that the BID has provided along Lord Street. It creates a lovely ambience at night, especially at this time of year.

“I am looking forward to the Southport Festive Fun Day this weekend. I love Toploader; they were one of my favourite bands when I was growing up. I’m excited to see them perform in Southport.

“We are going to get lots more trade on that day because of the event, and it’s something that is going to benefit a lot of town centre businesses.

“We are really supportive of what Southport BID and Your Southport are working to do in order to improve the area and to bring more people into Southport.

“I’d like to wish everyone a happy festive season.

“Hopefully we can then look forward to a new year that can bring more great things to Southport.”
