The funeral for the world’s oldest man John Tinniswood will take place in Southport this week.
Mr Tinniswood sadly died at his care home in Southport in November aged 112 years old.
His family said: “The UK and the world’s oldest man John Alfred Tinniswood sadly died on 25 November at his care home in Southport.
“John’s funeral will be held on Wednesday 4th December 2024 at Southport Crematorium at 10am. All who knew John would be very welcome.
“John Tinniswood loved Southport very much. Although he was born in Liverpool where he spent most of his life he had many happy days out in Southport with his family from childhood onwards.
“He must have walked up and down Southport Pier hundreds of times over his lifetime.
“During John’s late 90s he used to regularly take the train to Southport to go walking or have his favorite fish fish and chips or a cup of tea on Lord Street.
“John spent the last 12 and a half years of his life in the Hollies Care Home Southport where he was very happy in large part due to the kindness and warmth of Southport people.
“Southport is an incredibly special place and we wish everyone from the town the very best.”

John Tinniswood celebrated his 112th birthday in Southport on August Bank Holiday Monday (26th August 2024) with his family and friends.
He became the world’s oldest living man in April when 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez Mora died.
Speaking with The Guinness Book of Records, when asked how it felt to be turning 112, he replied: “In all honesty, no different. I don’t feel that age, I don’t get excited over it. That’s probably why I’ve reached it. I just take it in my stride like anything else.
“I can’t think of any special secrets I have. I was quite active as a youngster; I did a lot of walking. But to me, I’m no different [to anyone]. No different at all.”
In the same year John was born, the Titanic sank, Arizona became a US state, and the 268-year reign of China’s Qing dynasty came to an end.

John enjoyed 44 years of marriage to his wife Blodwen, who passed away in 1986.
The couple had a daughter, Susan, who gave them four grandchildren, and John also had three great-grandchildren.
John’s other lifelong love was Liverpool FC, which was founded just 20 years before he was born. He lived through all eight of their FA Cup wins and 17 of their 19 league title wins.
After turning 100, John received a birthday card every year from the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was John’s junior by almost 14 years.
