David Lloyd has built a successful business, dabbled in stand-up comedy, masterminded a jailbreak, and spent his career in the world of financial services — but nothing, absolutely nothing, has tested him quite like learning to dance.

This November, the founder of Lloyd & Co Financial Planning will swap spreadsheets for sequins as one of 11 courageous contestants taking part in Strictly Queenscourt 2025 — a glittering charity event raising vital funds for Queenscourt Hospice.

The show returns to the Prince of Wales Hotel in Southport on Saturday 15th November 2025, promising sparkle, sequins, show-stopping routines — and not a dad dance in sight.

Nicknamed “Lazy Legs Lloyd” by his instructor, David is being put through his paces by Kaz Leach and the team at Marshside School of Dance — and he’s quickly realising that rhythm might not come as naturally as he once believed.

“I always love a challenge,” David said. “When I was nagged to take part in Strictly, I thought, ‘How hard can it be?’ Dance has always been my chosen form of communication — ever since I was in the womb!

“I’ve spent years throwing shapes across dancefloors throughout the North West, convinced I was a self-choreographed revelation. Turns out I’m not. Moving my legs in one direction while my arms go another isn’t natural or human. It’s weird — and I can’t do it.”

David is no stranger to stepping outside his comfort zone. He’s performed stand-up comedy gigs, faced live audiences, and even taken part in Queenscourt’s Jail and Bail challenge, where he was “locked up” and tasked with raising his own “bail” money. But Strictly might just be his toughest challenge yet.

“It’s much harder than I ever imagined,” he admitted. “The choreography is relentless — but it’s also great fun. My daughter Bailey, who’s 11, comes along to classes too. She picks things up instantly while I’m still trying to work out which of my left feet I’m supposed to lead with.

“But I’m determined to leave everything I’ve got on the dancefloor. They’re going to need a mop — and St John’s Ambulance have apparently assigned a specialist dance-response team!”

That enthusiasm is matched by a fiercely competitive streak.

“Do I want to win? Of course I do! This could be my legacy — my gift to the world, retold for centuries after I’m gone. I’m not getting any younger, this is my last chance to get my big break.

“With a bit of luck, a talent scout might spot me and cast me as Billy Elliot — West End or Broadway, I’m flexible.

“The launch of my dance career aside, the real winner on the night will be the amazing charity.”

Partnered with Amy Clayton from Fletchers Solicitors, David is training hard to deliver a routine that will surprise everyone — including himself.

“I’m very lucky to be partnered with Amy,” he said. “I wouldn’t swap her for anyone — despite the tears and tantrums – all mine. She’s been fantastic, patient, and somehow still smiling after every rehearsal.”

And while the glitterball trophy would be nice, it’s not their main motivation.

“Queenscourt Hospice does extraordinary work,” David said. “They support thousands of families across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire during the most difficult times of their lives. We’ve supported them for years, and this is another chance to give something back.

“If my concerning dance moves can be deployed to raise money for such a vital service, then every step, stumble and swivel will be worth it.”

Strictly Queenscourt returns for its third spectacular year, featuring 11 brave contestants paired with professional dancers, a panel of fabulous judges, two sensational hosts, and a night of unforgettable entertainment — all in support of Queenscourt Hospice. Each dancer is aiming to raise at least £1,500, and David is determined to smash that total.

“Please sponsor me and help make this a night to remember. I can’t promise elegance or grace, but I can promise enthusiasm and gay abandon — and who knows, maybe the premiere of some never-before-seen dance moves.”

As Gloria Estefan once warned: “The rhythm is gonna get ya.”
