An expert from Fletchers Solicitors in Southport has revealed three essential tips to stop people from damaging their eyes during the Coronavirus lockdown.
An Operations Specialist from the firm, which has an office on Hoghton Street in Southport town centre, is offering her advice following reports that 1 in 5 people are less likely to book an eye test now than before the pandemic.
Bethany Harwood, Operations Specialist at Fletchers explains that in the throes of a third lockdown many of us are surrounded by technology which can mean no respite for our eyes.
Bethany said: “We are consumed by screens more today than ever before.
“We often move through various screen sizes in the course of a single day; working on a medium PC screen to watching TV on a large screen and switching to a smaller screen to scroll through social media. Each and every day we are surrounded by screens!
“I would estimate screen time has increased over the last year by around 40% so it is no wonder I suffer with the odd headache and feeling of exhaustion by the time I’m ready for sleep.
“It is therefore important to take actionable steps in protecting our health as we continue to spend more time at home. Below I have outlined three key tips to help us to avoid headaches and eye-related complications.
-
Make a conscious effort to put away your phone at least an hour before bed
Reports show that our screen time is up during the pandemic and a result of that means many of us believe our eyesight has worsened. In addition to maintaining our eye health, taking a break away from our phones in an evening is also thought to reduce stress and improve our mental health.
- Get out of the house for a walk at lunch, and leave your phone at home
Time away from technology allows for self-reflection and a chance to recharge mentally. A change of perspective can also do wonders for how you feel in yourself.
- Think about your blue light exposure
I recently purchased a pair of glasses designed to reduce the amount of blue light our eyes absorb, which has significantly reduced eye strain and headaches. It’s safe to say both my physical and mental health have benefited.
