At a community engagement event this Thursday (14th May 2026) local people will have the chance to find out more about the return of the 154th Open Golf Championship to Royal Birkdale in Southport in July.
Taking place between 11am and 6pm at Southport Market, on King Street in Southport town centre, the free event will be an opportunity for local people to find out more about what is happening.
It will also be the chance to meet the people who are helping to organise the event, ask questions and share your thoughts.
And people can find out more about The Open Legacy Fund.
Launched in March, the fund will use money provided by event’s organiser, The R&A, to create a lasting, positive legacy for Sefton.

This will be achieved through grants to community projects that will deliver environmental and social benefits long after the Championship has taken place.
The Open is a big event that can help local shops, businesses and jobs.
It is important that people who live here can learn about it and have their say.
You can drop in at any time during the day, and everyone is welcome.
