People are invited to call in and enjoy the Ukrainian Day Celebrations in Southport this Saturday (3rd February 2024). 

There will be a whole host of attractions to enjoy at a very special Echoes of Ages event being held at The Atkinson on Lord Street between 10.30am and 3pm. 

This is a free, drop-in event. Donations are welcome.

It represents the launch of ‘Support Ukraine at The Atkinson: A Month of Cultural Events and Workshops’.

Look out for more Ukraine themed events taking place this February. 

An Atkinson spokesperson said: “Celebrate the vibrant spirit of Ukraine at The Atkinson!

“Mark your calendars! We’re excited to host a day-long celebration of Ukrainian culture and resilience. 

“Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Ukrainian traditions through music, dance, art, and culinary delights.”

All of the practical workshops below are first come first served. You may be expected to wait until a space becomes available.

Meet & Greet and Korovai

Step into a world of vibrant colours, rich customs, and authentic warmth.. This is an invitation to connect with the heart of Ukrainian culture, enveloped in the company of charming ladies adorned in stunning traditional dress and sharing the symbolic bounty of Korovai (the traditional braided bread).

Each note carries a story – of ancient traditions, unwavering spirit, and the unwavering hope for a brighter future.

10:30am – 12:30pm
Coffee Morning
Theatre Bar

Warm your hands and perk up your spirit with a steaming mug of coffee or a soothing cup of tea whilst diving into a tempting array of freshly baked cakes, scones, muffins, and cookies, all lovingly prepared by our community bakers. Bring a cake, bake a cake, enjoy a cake! All donations go to the Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal.

Traditional Ukrainian Fairy Story and Crafts

Embark on a heartwarming Ukrainian folktale: Meet brave characters, overcome challenges with wit and courage, and discover the magic that lives within us all with a craft activity for little ones!

Varenyky (dumpling) Making Workshop

More than just a delicious meal, varenyky are a cultural cornerstone, filled with stories passed down through generations. In this hands-on experience, you’ll become a culinary storyteller yourself, learning the art of creating these delightful pockets of joy.

12:30pm – 2:30pm
Motanka Doll Workshop
Museum Landing

Dive into the rich history of Motanka dolls, their symbolic meanings, and the ancient rituals woven into their creation. Master the art of crafting a Motanka using simple materials like cloth, thread, and natural fibres. No sewing experience needed!
