The proud parents who run the Elsie’s Story charity have thanked the London Marathon runners and supporters from across the UK who helped them to raise an incredible £100,000 for their charity.
Leading the way at the Marathon on Sunday (27th April 2025) was David Stancombe, whose daughter Elsie, aged 7, was one of three young girls who were killed at The Hart Space in Southport last summer.
David and wife Jen set up Elsie’s Story in her name to provide assistance to young people and support for others in the community and across the region.
Two years ago, David and Jen ran a 3K charity fundraiser with Elsie. They cheered her on and held her hand every step of the way.
They said: “As we take on the London Marathon, we know she’ll be right there with us cheering us on in spirit.”

Elsie loved watching the London Marathon with her Dad and always said she wanted him to run it one day in honour of her Nan, David’s Mum, to raise money for charity.
Elsie was a natural fundraiser, always giving and always helping. She raised so much for charity and now her proud Mum and Dad are following in her footsteps.
On Sunday, David completed the 26.2 mile London Marathon running with his friend David Tarjomi and other runners including Chris Spruce; John Howard; Joanne Matthews; Sammie Johnson; Georgina Hastings; and Emma O’Toole.

Meanwhile, also running on Sunday, was Sergio Aguiar, whose daughter Alice also died in the Southport tragedy. He was running with supporters helping in his bid to raise £250,000 to create a new playground at Churchtown Primary School.
Jen Stancombe said: “Where do we even start?
“The London Marathon 2025, a day we will never, ever forget. So many emotions, all in one day.
“The support we received, not just from our incredible town but from people across the country, was deeply moving. We continue to be humbled by the love and kindness shown to our family and to Elsie’s Story.
“David and David T, you were nothing short of incredible. You did Elsie proud.

“We had a further nine runners take on the marathon for Elsie’s Story, and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of you.
“Together, you’ve helped raise £100,000!!! I mean WOW!!!
“It’s hard to put into words what that means to us. Not only did you run in her name, you’re helping to ensure her story brings light and hope to others.”

About Elsie’s Story
When they launched the Elsie’s Story charity, Jenni and Dave Stancombe said: “We want to continue Elsie’s ‘story’; her positivity, love for others and energy of life…..
“The Trust has been established with the principle objective being to make grants to causes in Elsie’s name, the focus of which will be assistance to young people and support for others in the community and across the region.
“This will include community projects, medical care and support for individuals and families, good causes involving fun, and bringing the community together.”
“Elsie was the most caring and generous little girl and we have promised to not let this awful tragedy be in vain and creating this trust is the start of this.”
