The joint committee made up of the integrated care boards (ICB) of NHS Cheshire and Merseyside and NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria are meeting on Friday, 13th March 2026 to make a final decision on where A&E services should be located in Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

The meeting will start at 10am on Friday, 13th March at Ormskirk Civic Hall on Southport Road.

Children’s A&E service are currently based at Ormskirk Hospital while Adult A&E services are based at Southport Hospital.

A decision March could result in all emergency services being located at either Southport or Ormskirk.

Members of the public who are interested in attending the meeting are invited to register their interest by completing a booking form.

A meeting in public is where members of the community can attend to observe a formal joint committee meeting.

While observers are not allowed to join in the discussion, more information, including papers and how to submit questions ahead of the meeting, will be made available on both ICB websites closer to the time.

Last week, an independent report looking at responses to the Shaping Care Together consultation on A&E services across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire was published.

The report, produced by the Centre for Health Communication Research, looks at responses from more than 5,000 people who completed the consultation survey, as well as thousands more who took part in public meetings and other engagement activities.

At this stage, no decisions have been made.

All feedback is being used to develop the programme’s Decision-Making Business Case (DMBC). It takes into account the consultation findings alongside clinical, financial, workforce and quality evidence.

The DMBC will be presented and considered at the joint committee meeting taking place on 13th March 2026.
