DBA School of Dance Southport will be popping on the kettle and pulling up a chair for Dementia UK’s annual fundraising event for dementia specialist care.
This Friday (8th May) local dance school DBA School of Dance will be opening up its new studios at 140 Cambridge Road, next to Churchtown Lights in Southport, and will be taking part in Dementia UK’s biggest fundraising event of the year, Time for a Cuppa, which will be fronted by Dementia UK ambassador Emma Barton.
People are welcome to call in between 2pm and 4pm.
They’ll be getting together for a piece of cake and a cuppa and inviting local people to join them in raising money for more dementia specialist Admiral Nurses.
The charity’s specialist dementia Admiral Nurses provide life-changing support for families affected by all forms of dementia; they work in hospitals, GP practices and local community services to provide clinical, emotional and practical support that enables people to live more positively with dementia.
Dementia is a huge and growing health crisis – by 2025, over one million people will be living with the condition, and almost all of us will know someone affected, whether it’s a family member or a friend. Currently, there is no cure for dementia – but there is support and specialist advice, this type of care can change lives.
Emma became an ambassador for Dementia UK last year. Her late uncle was diagnosed with vascular dementia; she has experienced first-hand how a diagnosis of dementia can impact the family. Just before the pandemic, Emma took part in the charity’s Time for a Cuppa campaign recreating famous ‘celebri-tea’ movie moments where she appeared as the iconic Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s – a role she has always wanted to play. DBA School of Dance Ltd is the Upper school of babyballet Southport, Formby & Crosby. It was founded by Rebekah Ryan and Jennifer Berrett in 2019. The pair have worked tirelessly teaching thousands of preschool children and in January this year with the help of family and friends, renovated the old Lloyds bank building at Churchtown lights into their own studio for all their little dancers and local community to enjoy.
