A Southport gardening expert and landscaper says he is “overwhelmed” after winning trophies at Southport Flower Show 2022.
Tom Fletcher, owner of Cutting Edge Garden Services, was also delighted to be presented with his trophies by his hero Adam Frost, a British garden designer famous for his successes at Chelsea Flower Show and as a presenter on the BBC’s Gardeners’ World.
Tom said: “I can’t believe this happened! I am now a triple award-winning landscape gardener. “I was awarded trophies for Best Small Garden, Best Outside Garden and Large Gold Medal.
“I am completely overwhelmed by this. I put so much of my heart into this.
“I would like to thank the judges and Southport Flower Show.
“The garden covers a 6m x 5m spot – it’s amazing what can be done in a small space.”
Cutting Edge Garden Services, which provides local gardening services, covers an area in Southport and from Tarleton to Crosby and out to Ormskirk and Maghull.
Tom said: “I made the decision to enter a Show Garden in this year’s Southport Flower Show, only deciding to do it in June.
“I put myself under a lot of pressure, finishing ongoing projects for clients and then getting home and prepping bits for the Show Garden.
“There were some long days before the Show Garden build even started.
“We started our Show build at the start of August and completed it on Tuesday.
“Judging took place on Wednesday and we found out how successful we had been on Thursday morning, as the Southport Flower Show opened.
“I was awarded a Large Gold Medal for Overall Design and Build. I was happy with that!
“I then had a visit from judges and special Southport Flower Show guest Adam Frost – for those who saw my Chelsea Flower Show post he is my landscaping idol!
“Adam presented me with the award for Best Small Show Garden and seconds later he also presented me with the trophy for Best Outdoor Garden in Show.
“Never has both these awards been given to the same landscaper. To be awarded three awards is another Southport Flower Show first the judges informed me.
“I was and still am overwhelmed by the events of Thursday, none of which would have been possible without the love and support and acceptance of the long days and nights taken to get this done from Kristy Fletcher.
“The hard work and help that my Dad gives me and my Mum, Ray Fletcher, and then of course Zac and Oscar for continually telling me I do a great job and everything will be worth it. Thank you all, you are my world.
“I would also like to thank all my suppliers, Cheshire Sandstone, Formby Timber & DIY Centre, OakMax, Ian Torley, Len Wright Salads Ltd., Molyneux Kale Company, Webster’s Turf, and J A Jones & Sons Churchtown.”
